Maya Vitkova is born on 27th of May 1978 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
 
She starts her education as a film and TV director in 1996. During her studies at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Art she directs the films "Christmas Tale", "Execution" 4, "Passage", "Three Sisters" (one of the 8 directors, leading acting role) and "Why Always Me?".
 
Maya writes the scripts "Mothers and Daughters", "The Doors are Closing", "Santiago Str.", "Gin Air", "Ghosts", "Rape", "The Eyes", "The Mole", "Lullaby", "Circle of Life", "The Last Day of the 20th Century", "Christmas Tale", "The Words" and "Why Always Me?". Her short-stories "Cipsy?s Vesper" and "The Last Day of the 20th Century" win prizes on National short story competitions.
 
Maya is experienced as a 1st and 2nd assistant director and a cast director. (Boyana Film Company, BNT, Phare Programme), "Day and a Half" (Military Film Studio), "Warming-up Yesterday's Lunch" (Gala Film, Digitprop), "Hope in Sofia" (Edita Production House), "Hour Glass" (Boyana Film Company, Borough Film), "Miracle" (BNT).

Since 2004 Maya Vitkova directs and is a d.o.p. of the documentaries "Building Bridges" (Commisioned by the British Council), "The ABC Network" and "The ABC Project" (Commisioned by the STOEP Foundation for Eastern European projects, supported by the MATRA programme of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
She is currently working on the postproduction of her documentary "Mothers and Daughters" (Bulgarian National Television) in co-authority with Svetoslav Draganov (Cineaste Maudit).

Maya has been recently selected for the SCENE Insiders Training Programme, London, supported by the MEDIA Plus Programme of the European Community, United International Pictures and the British Council.
