Born in 1977 in Strasbourg, France (but has lived in Budapest since the age of 2) in a Francophile family, Barnabas Toth was very early touched by French culture. He began his career as a child actor at 6: he played in movies and appeared on the scenes of the most prestigious theatres of Budapest. He achieved his greatest success so far in 1993, when he held the lead role in Ildiko Szabo's “Child Murders” (FIPRESCI at the Directors' fortnight in Cannes, special prize for Barnabas in Geneva). After graduating from high-school, he followed communication studies to deepen his knowledge of English and French. He was then admitted to the Budapest Academy of Cinema. He has so far written and directed 9 short films, including “On a train” (awarded in Aubagne, in Cottbus, presented at Cannes in 2005 and broadcast on Canal + and Channel 4), “Un partout” (in competition at Clermont Ferrand and Rotterdam) and “Autograph” where he appears alongside Jeanne Moreau. His debuting feature film, “Camembert Rose”, shot in summer 2008, is at the very last phase of post-production
.
His next project, “Electrons” is in the writing phase.
