Born in 1967 in Prague. He is a graduate of Film Faculty FAMU in Prague with a degree in documentary film-making. His student documentaries won numerous international awards with one, Mme Le Murie, nominated for a student Academy Award. At Locarno in 1996, his feature debut, Marian, took home three prizes including a Silver Leopard, went on to win a number of other international awards and was licensed into various territories. His second film, Parallel Worlds, was a finalist in the Sundance NHK screenwriting competition and was selected for the international competition in San Sebastian. The script Suivre sa Princess, written with Marie Desplechin, was a finalist in the Best Scriptwriter Award – SOPADIN France in 2006.
