Laurent de Bartillat began his career as a photographer shortly after completing a degree in Art History at the Sorbonne. His photos appeared in numerous magazines and were published in book-form by Les Editions Fayard in 2000. In 1991, he directed his first documentaries for television and was nominated for the Sept d’Or award for his film, Seul, where he followed Gérard d’Aboville’s solitary voyage across the Pacific Ocean. He wrote and directed his first short film, La Villa du Cap, in 1988. His second short, Sang d'Encre (1997) was selected in more than 20 international film festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand, Montreal, and San Francisco. In 2003, he was also the co-author of the much-publicized book Stop, a harrowing look at today’s ecological situation published by Le Seuil. In 2007. he directed his first feature The Vanishing Point starring Sylvie Testud, Jean-Pierre Marielle, and James Thiérrée. The film premiered at The Rome Film Fest 2007 in competition. It gained two nominations for the "best screenplay" and the "best actress" by Academy of Lumière (international press price) and it won the price "La Clé des auditeurs" at International festival of music and cinema at Auxerre. The film was released in november 2007.
