ANNA SURIANI WASCH (Merano 1979) studied Film- and Television Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. Fascinated by Eastern European cinema she participated at the 3F Program of FAMU, the national filmschool of Czech Republic. After Prague she moved to Rome to study directing at the Italian national filmschool ‘Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia’ where she graduated in 2005.

She followed various international masterclasses, of which a masterclass with Abbas Kiarostami organized by la Scuola Holden of Torino, masterclass with Jane Campion organized by La Cineteca di Bologna. In 2007 she was a participant of Film Spring, a project under guidance of Slawomir Idziak, organized by the Koelner Filmhaus, Focal, Norwegian Film Development and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. She also was a participant of the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2004.

She has directed several short movies that have been screened at various national and international filmfestivals. Her filmproject Porcelain Girl won the first prize at the Unheard Filmfestival. She is now developing the treatment into a screenplay during this year’s edition of Script & Pitch Workshops.

She currently lives in Amsterdam where she has worked on various projects as assistant director and in the production department. She is now specializing in Creative Entrepreneurship, followed masterclasses with the Kaos Pilot (International School of New Business Design and Social Innovation) and with the Dutch organisation Kunstenaars & Co.

Anna, being herself a mix of various cultures and continents, is interested in making films about cultural identity. In her films she tries to explore the borderlines between people’s inner and outer life, between normality and abnormality, between waking and dreaming, between reality and everything that goes beyond.
