Hanneke van der Tas was born in 1975 in Mexico. She grew up in the United Kingdom, Syria, The Netherlands, Germany, France, and the United States. She has a post-graduate law degree from Harvard Law School and is admitted to the New York Bar as well as the Barreau de Paris. From 2003 to 2004 she studied European and International Film Production at the German-French Masterclass at La Fémis in Paris and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Hanneke van der Tas subsequently worked for Lago Film in Berlin before becoming a partner and managing director of Nikovantastic Film in 2007. On 1 February 2010 she founded the film production company Alphaville together with writer/director Roland Lang. Alphaville’s first project is entitled Organic Lovepigs and is the first film in a planned Berlin trilogy. In addition, Hanneke van der Tas co-produces international feature films with her production company vandertastic. She is a board member of the rendez-vous franco-allemands du cinema as well as a member of Atelier Network and EAVE. Since 2006, Hanneke van der Tas teaches “International Co-Productions” at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
